Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, my favourite place in Denmark
Inside my favourite museum in Denmark, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. Easy to reach from Copenhagen and spend a full day by the sea side.
n
Today I will explain to you why the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is my favourite museum in the world. But before that, you will need a little bit of background.
nnnI've always loved museums, and I always will.n
However, I am not exactly that type of person who stands by a piece of art and stares at it for 10 minutes. Not that person at all.
n
I usually spend more time on the surroundings of the museum, at the cafe, the library, the shopping area, the resting area, or the green area whenever possible.
n
On these spots, you can observe not only the art itself but people.
nnnnnnnnnnnI enjoy the art of observing how people face art.nnnn
Do they judge it?
nnnn
Do they talk about it?
nnnn
Do they take pictures?
nnnn
Or they only do a dynamic view of everything and go to the next exhibition room?
nnnnnnnn
Moreover, I love to see whole families visiting museums on the weekends.
nnnn
It reminds me of my own childhood. The days when my parents would bring my brother and me to visit museums. Instead of going to the shopping mall, we did a lot of cultural programs, and I'm really glad they did that to us, cause that constructed the personality I have today.
nnnnnnnnKids must face art from the very beginning of their lives. It makes the whole difference.nnnn
There was a time I used to go to the museum's library to study and read the news.
nnnn
I also chose museums as the meeting point of many of my dates, and friends gatherings.
nnnn
As you can see, I love the experience of just being in a museum.
nnnnA museum day, It's always a cool day. nnnnnnnn
Doesn't matter if it's cold, or raining, or whatever. The atmosphere recharges me immediately.
nnnn
I usually focus on admiring the architecture of the building (it's always impressive), and the company I have (can be family, friends, or my own).
nnnn
If you are lucky enough, you will find a super nice cafe and spend some of your time there as well.
nnnn
I was never a big fan of reading all the history boxes and understanding the whole process behind the art pieces. I am happy to just be around all that.
nnnn
But I am a fan of checking the museum's events and attending workshops, gatherings, open talks and things like that.
nnnn
It might seem a bit stupid, but for me, beauty relies on the magic of the place, not on the art pieces.
nnnn
But what is a museum without the art pieces? Probably something else, that's why they must be there to complete my experience.
nnnn
And that's why I found my favourite museum in the world in Denmark.
nnnnLouisiana Museum of Modern Artnnnnnnnn
Why this one and not the Louvre in Paris or the Reina Sofia in Madrid with the world's most famous arts?
nnnn
Because Louisiana is more than a building guarding art pieces and history.
nnnn
It offers a completely different perspective of what art is for me.
nnnnFirst of all - It's surrounded by nature.nnnn
The place is located in a house just by the sea.
nnnn
Imagine a huge family house turned into a museum, with a view of the sea and trees everywhere.
nnnnnnnn
The house is connected to other buildings, and some underground tunnels turned into exhibition rooms.
nnnnThe experience is not only indoor, but outdoor, and that's why I love it so much.nnnn
Do you have the feeling of being closed indoors for too much time when you visit a museum? Like 3h passed and you haven't seen the sunlight?
nnnn
In Lousiana, you will never have this feeling, cause there is light mostly everywhere.
nnnn
I see Louisiana as a place to go and spend your full day enjoying not only art, but nature, architecture, food (there is a nice restaurant with a view to the sea, but you can picnic with your own food as well).
nnnnnnnnThe building is the best example of Nordic architecturennnn
A lot of wood and huge open windows to catch as much light as possible (during winter that makes the whole difference, as it's dark very early in the afternoon and light becomes a real treasure).
nnnnnnnn
When you are walking in the little forest around, you find art sculptures on the way, and basically, every detail can be seen as art.
nnnnnnnn
I remember when I went to Louisiana for the first time 2 years ago. Without any expectations, as museums can be very similar in some ways, I got totally surprised by the experience I had there.
nnnn
I even recorded many video fragments and compiled this one, which has surprisingly quite a lot of views on youtube:
nnnnnnnn
Last weekend I visited Louisiana once again, and I fell in love once again.
nnnn
And this time I was lucky enough to see my favourite painting of Frida Kahlo, on its original version, together with other amazing female artists. The name of the exhibition is Fantastic Women and it's running all over the world.
nnnn
Believe me, I am not the only one in this love story with Louisiana, cause the museum created a year card that allows you to visit as many times as you want. I met many people who actually bought this card, cause they enjoy going to Louisiana to spend time there. I want to do the same.
nnnn
You can get there within a 30min train trip from Central Copenhagen, plus 10 minutes walking on the small neighbourhood of Humlebæk.
nnnnComing to Copenhagen? Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is a must.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
