Polish mountains | Summer vs Winter in Zakopane

Trip to the Polish mountains, Zakopane. What is the best season? If you prefer hiking, go in the summer, if you like to ski and snow, winter!

Let's talk about Polish mountainsn

n More specifically - the Tatra mountains near Zakopane, the most famous mountain town in Poland.nn nnYes, Poland has gorgeous mountains, it's not all about Krakow and Warsaw!nn nnFortunately, some years ago when my father planned a trip to Poland with my brother and me, he added Zakopane on the route.nnI couldn't be happier about it when I got to see what Zakopane really is.nnWith nil expectations, Zakopane got a special part of my traveling memories.nn nnIn the summer of 2014, I visited Zakopane for the first time, walked to Morskie Oko on a sunny day and ate Zapiekanka in the mountains.nn nnn

In the winter of 2018n

n I had a view of Zakopane in the peak of the winter, when the city is completely white with loooaaads of snow.nn nnNow you must be lost, trying to choose the best season to visit Zakopane, should I go in the summer or in the winter?nnIt's difficult to answer that, considering both seasons are unique and offer distinct opportunities. And yeah, both wonderful.nn nnIn the summer everything is green, the sky is blue and you can go hiking all around. The days are longer and you can really enjoy the fresh air of the mountains. If you enjoy the warm connection with the nature, doing outdoor picnics and even camping, summer it is.nn nnWhen we visited Zakopane back in 2014, we spent only 1 day in the city. We went to the most famous attraction - the hiking route to Morskie Oko, a magic lake hidden in between the mountains.nn nnI remember watching all kinds of people walking towards this lake - grandparents, children, families, babies, school trips, etc. But they were all mostly slavic, I don't remember watching many internationals at that point (which is good, right? makes the experience more 'local', even though Zakopane has been becoming more and more famous overseas)nn nn n

But summer in Europe is short, especially in the mountains.n

n Winter is always coming and things get a bit more difficult.nn nnFirst of all, it's really cold.nn nnYou need to be prepared with warm clothes and waterproof stuff, cause the snow is often falling (and that's beautiful, isn't it?).nn nnIn the winter you can go ski, drink mulled wine, eat the typical mountain food, which is very oil-based to keep you full of energy to survive the cold atmosphere.nn nnOverall, you can enjoy the winter vibes from the inside of a traditional wooden house, like watching the snow falling from the window while holding a cup of coffee.nn nnAt this point you probably realize I vote for the winter in Zakopane instead of the summer. But that's only because I will always choose colder options, I love snow and the cozy winter vibe.nn nnBoth seasons are amazing, and if you have the opportunity to see both, lucky you!n
