Summer in Copenhagen - Urban Harbour Baths
How danish people enjoy thier summer in the capital Copenhagen in the hot days - exploring the harbour urban baths all over the city
n
Summer in Copenhagen is something unforgettable. In 2019 we had a very warm summer in Europe, we all felt the heat waves mostly everywhere (or at least you’ve been watching the news). In northern places, that’s not exactly how it works. We are used to cold summers, but not this year.

This year we could feel the summer in Copenhagen, and we all really enjoyed every moment of it! These unique properly summer days I am going to mention now, when there is sun all day long (and almost all night long on the peaks of light in June). Oh my god, these are the best summer days you can ever get.
nnnn
Why?
nnnn
nnnn The city becomes summer oriented.nnnn
nnnn
Workers leave their offices around 2pm every day, just to run to the closest beach possible. Not mentioning the smart ones which take the whole month as a holiday without thinking twice. That only happens because of the flexibility of the work environment In Denmark - another topic to be discussed in the future.

The logistics of the city is based on bike traffic on the way to the sea - and the sea is everywhere, combined with canals / docks / boats / vikings literally anywhere you can imagine.
nnnn
nnnnnnnnnnnn
nnnnThe nordic beaches are far from what we draw in our Latin imaginations, nnnn
They are something else. Wooden structures were built all along the canals in the city center, this way people can lay on these docks and sunbathe any time of the day. There are little stairs every 10m so you can jump into the fresh salty water and get back easily.
nnnn
nnnnnnnnAnd these places have a name, they call it "Københavns Havnebade", or Copenhagen Harbour Bathsnnnn
nnnn
There are also slides together with all the facilities, and everything is PUBLIC.

You basically can go swimming at any time, just park your bike in the closest area and enjoy the water! That's exactly what I did. I was bringing my swimwear with me every day, and taking baths every day.

And of course, the water is clean, efforts were taken to make it healthy for the whole ecosystem.
nnnn

*There are so many great initiatives to keep the water clean, such as Kayak trips. You get a kayak for free and within 2h you have to collect the trash you find on your way, so cool!

nnnnMy experience last week living the danish summer is something I will never forget.nnnn
nnnn
I was alone in the city and waking up with the sun almost every day made me get out of the house without a proper plan. There was always just a simple desired destination: I’m going to the sea, and I’m going by bike.
nnnn
nnnnnnnn
nnnn
The place where I am is quite far from everything, so I was biking an average of 30km every day both ways. I was sooooo happy about it. The freedom you feel when you bike to the sea is something not possible to describe, just try it.

Now let’s finish this post with a few more pictures of this summer-week in Copenhagen
