The art of speaking less and saying more

the art of speaking less and telling compelling stories in a world where we are bombarded with content!

That's one of the rare moments when I have a title before even starting my text.

nMindful speakingn

What does it mean?

n

In my journey of self-discovery and understanding myself as an introvert, I got into an article some time ago, where the author explains why is always better to talk less.

n

We often think that people who speak a lot are the ones easily owning the room.

n

Now, think about a person speaking a lot of unconnected things, in a prolix way, lots of fillers, just for the sake of realising energy and showing presence. That means anxiety.

n

People do it without even realizing how bad it is.

n

Nowadays, I can easily spot an anxious speech in the crowd. And I think you can also do that. People talk a lot when they are anxious.

n

That's when that sentence comes in place:

n

n

Less is more.

n

n

In public speaking, writing, content creation, simple conversations - less is always more!

n

We live in a world where we are bombarded with content 24h a day, and our mind is tired of it. We are more and more looking for concise and compelling stories.

n

We don't have time for the blablabla that used to put you on the spotlight.

n

The cool version of the spotlight is that single phrase at the end of a meeting, summarizing the whole story and guiding the solution.

n

For me, that's the definition of mindful speaking.

nIntroverts, that's the time when your silence is finally appreciatedn

In other words, your ability to LISTEN and give sharp insights about how you see everything.

n

Minding the words was never a problem for me, as my thoughts go through a lot of filters before they become verbally expressed.

n

I always think deeply about what I am going to say. In seconds, I'm able to imagine the different scenarios and perceptions the audience can get from each word I said.

n

Yes, that sounds like a valuable feature to have, but believe me, it can easily become a nightmare when you are doing a public speech.

n

Every phrase has an echo inside me, with multiple consequences.

n

I often ask myself:

n

n

Am I too obvious?

n

Do I sound weird?

n

Is this person imagining this scenario and not what I want him/her to see?

n

n

An introvert and over-analytical mind can be very tricky.

n

Everything comes with a price, right?

n

I'm currently working on my ability to silence these thoughts inside my mind when I'm expressing my self. How? Living the present, blocking the future. At least, when I am speaking or writing.

n

Mindfulness, they say.

n

I'll finish this text with a podcast that summarizes everything I said just by the title:
